Illinois Tool Works Selects Ceridian for U.S. Payroll Processing Services

Minneapolis (May 29, 2008) – Ceridian Corporation, a leader in human resources outsourcing management solutions, announced today that Illinois Tool Works Inc. (NYSE: ITW) has selected Ceridian to manage payroll for its more than 25,000 employees in the United States. ITW is a diversified manufacturer of highly engineered components and industrial systems and consumables. Some of ITW’s better known brands include Hobart, Miller Electric, Wilsonart, and Weldcraft.

ITW recently conducted an in-depth review and analysis of its payroll process. The Company concluded that their in-house payroll application had a high total cost of ownership and support, and maintenance of the application taxed internal information technology resources. After deciding that it made strategic sense to turn to an outsourcing model, the Company hired PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP to guide and manage the RFP process and subsequent evaluation. ITW selected Ceridian’s outsourcing solution because it will:

* Enable the HR organization to focus on delivering strategic and consultative value added services
* Provide an effective, efficient and scalable process for managing future acquisitions
* Accurately process payroll on a timely basis
* Reduce the effort and costs related to Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and payroll system maintenance
* Leverage payroll best practices
* Reduce manual processes

“Ceridian was the right choice for ITW,” said Sharon Brady, ITW senior vice president, Human Resources. “Their payroll solution is easy to use, which is especially important to us because we have over 350 business units in the U.S. that employ people with a wide variety of skills and talents. Ceridian impressed us with their expertise and willingness to bring in the right people to support our ongoing partnership.”

“We are thrilled to have ITW in the Ceridian family,” said Kathryn V. Marinello, Ceridian’s chairman and chief executive officer. “Like many of our clients, ITW recognized that the nuances of processing payroll can be complicated and distracting to an organization. By outsourcing to a partner with the right expertise, companies like ITW can lower their costs and focus on their core business strengths.”

ITW will use Ceridian’s HR/Payroll Latitude product, the first single database product in the industry with cross-border capabilities. The product is delivered using the Software as a Service (SaaS) model. This enables clients to quickly realize the benefits of outsourcing by avoiding the significant fees associated with in-house solutions and freeing IT resources from burdensome system maintenance and periodic software upgrade projects. With Ceridian, scarce resources can be redeployed from tactical projects toward more meaningful, strategic HR efforts.
